Integration

SpareBank 1 API integration

Transactions and balances fetched from the bank automatically, so reconciliation and bookkeeping no longer depend on downloaded files and manual matching.

SpareBank 1 has APIs for accounts, balances and transactions, with the account holder's consent. That means bank transactions can flow straight into an accounting or finance system without anyone downloading a file.

I've built this in several places. Transactions are fetched automatically and matched against invoices and expenses, so reconciliation mostly takes care of itself.

What can be fetched

  • Accounts and balances
  • Transactions with amount, date and text
  • Data for automatic reconciliation against invoices and expenses
  • Statements for accounting or your own dashboard

Access and setup

Access goes through SpareBank 1's developer portal, and the account holder gives consent with BankID. The consent lasts for a limited period and has to be renewed, so I build in a reminder before it runs out, rather than having the integration quietly stop fetching data one day.

Other banks offer the same through open banking, so it can be built against them too. What varies is how consent is given and how long it lasts.

Common questions

Can you initiate payments too?
Fetching data and initiating payments are two different kinds of access with different requirements. Fetching is the easiest place to start. I can look at payments if you need them.
Does it work with banks other than SpareBank 1?
Yes, most Norwegian banks have similar APIs through open banking. The details around access and consent vary a little from bank to bank.
Is this safe?
The integration only gets read access to the accounts you choose, and the consent can be withdrawn in online banking at any time.
